MORE than 1,000 people sprayed with clouds of multi-coloured powder paint completed a five kilometre charity walk in Abergavenny.

The inaugural ‘Colour for Abergavenny’ event took place in Bailey Park on Sunday in support of Velindre Cancer Centre.

Entrants walked, skipped or ran the circuit at the event which originates from the Holi festivals in India, held to celebrate health and happiness while getting blasted with fountains of colour.

Those taking part were supplied with glasses and white t-shirts which were sprayed with the paint by Abergavenny Fire Brigade and Abergavenny Air Training Corps.

Entertainment was provided by bands Pandora’s Secret, Just for Kicks and Ragsy of BBC’s The Voice fame, a gymnastics display and Crazy Daze quad bikes.

Organiser Liz Sullivan, OBE said: “We took a healthy challenge and turned it into the most colourful fun we’ve seen.”

“There were so many happy faces, and the hundreds of pictures that we are accumulating just show how much fun was had by everyone who took part. We can’t wait to finalise our fundraising figures now.”

Volunteer organisers Cressida Slater added: “The support from traders and sponsors has been epic. I would love to see it as an annual event in the Abergavenny calendar.”
