A CWMBRAN woman is preparing to take her first steps into the world of business by setting up a cloud-based accountancy firm.

Jaine Wills, 50, of Croesyceiliog, will launch Accretion Accountancy next month, which will utilise digital tools to store data and information over paper-based hard copies.

Despite running a business in her 20s which was unrelated to her future profession, the director is eager to get her Accretion up-and-running.

“I’m very excited to finally get the business underway,” said Mrs Wills, who will be operating from Cwmbran.

“It is going to give me a chance to put all the 30 odd years of experience – I was teaching and training accountants for 10 years of that – into helping businesses that really want to grow.

“That for me is perhaps the most exciting thing. I’ve been involved with the young enterprise scheme in Bargoed before and I’m ready to get out there and do it,” she said, who is also a specialist in fraud and internal controls.

The businesswoman believes that by using the capabilities of the cloud, it opens up a new world of possibilities as well as being environmentally conscious.

“Traditionally, you’d have the accounting package on your computer and it would need to be backed up on a server, where there are a number of risks in terms of hacking or space,” she said.

“If the documents that we need to use are stored in the cloud, where items are stored digitally, you can upload the information to there. The system also starts to learn the more you use it – it’s a form of artificial intelligence.

“The cloud allows the business to enter into the phase were touching documents can become a thing of the past.

“Since all the documents are delivered via PDF, it could be a more environmentally friendly way to do business as there won’t be a mass of paper used,” said Mrs Wills.

The chartered management accountant is hoping to appeal to businesses which are looking to expand, but will also use her years of teaching to her benefit.

“I’m interested in the businesses that are looking to grow – small to medium sized companies looking to expand operations,” said the businesswoman.

“Those that want to get on and not just get by.

“If the business is at the stage where the owners are wanting to take the next step and need some financial input, my solution will be to use my services and financial knowledge for couple of days a month.

“When they are ready perhaps to employ someone, I can train the staff using my experience from training in the past,” said Mrs Wills.

The website – accretionaccountancy.co.uk – will go live on this weekend and the business will be up-and-running in March.
