A FAMILY fun day has raised more than £2,000 for the Welsh Air Ambulance charity ahead of the anniversary of a Pontypool father-of-one who died in a car crash.

Adam Millett, 26, was involved in a crash on Friday, September 30, 2016, between a Silver Renault Megane and an Iveco Flatbed Lorry, at Garn Yr Erw, near Blaenavon, on the B4246.

“It has gone really well. We’ve definitely raised a lot more than we thought we would,” said Mr Millett’s sister, Chloe, 24, adding that the fun day raised £2,085.50 in total.

“The turnout has been great. We were aware that it was taking part during school and work time.”

The fun day entertainment included a bouncy castle, fun and games and a tombola, while the Welsh Air Ambulance’s mascot Huw made an appearance with mock helicopter.

Miss Millett added that the family were keen to support the Welsh Air Ambulance as they did what they could to save their loved one.

“It was the Air Ambulance that took Adam to the Heath hospital after he had his accident. It was as they touched down that they actually lost his pulse,” she said.

“They did everything could on their part to help him and it is an amazing charity.

“They only receive public funding and they are so vital.

“If we have to, we’ll keep holding even to ensure that their helicopters stay in the air.”

The event was planned as just a coffee morning but grew in size as word spread about the fun day, and despite being a celebration, Mr Millett’s family said it had been a difficult year.

“It was supposed to be just a coffee morning but it grew and grew and we ended up with a fun day,” said Miss Millett.

“We try not to let things get us down and put a dampener on things. It has been a sad time for us but something good, like today, has come as a result.”
