FUNDS have been raised in support of a injured rugby player and his family, thanks to a themed 'bootcamp' event.

Ex-Wales Dragonhearts full back, Scott Bessant 34, was found lying in Pentwyn Lane, Abersychan, at around 5.15am on Sunday, August 13.

He remains in a critical condition in intensive care, with injuries which are described as “life-changing”.

In support of the Pontypool dad's family, the 'Bootcamp for Scott' event was organised by family friend and personal trainer Rachael Pugh, raising more than £100.

The bootcamp took place at The Landing, Pentwyn, Abersychan and Miss Pugh included body weight exercises and team-based games.

The personal trainer, who grew up knowing Mr Bessant’s sisters Sian and Rachael, added: "Nobody knows what happened and no one is coming forward. I couldn't imagine what they're going through as a family.

"The support for the Bessant family has been absolutely amazing and it shows we're a strong community in this part of Torfaen."

Miss Pugh also hopes to hold similar fundraising bootcamps in future.
