POLICE are reminding people in Torfaen to keep their homes secure during warm weather, following an increase in reported burglaries over the past week.

Offences were recorded in the Ty Canol, Fairwater and Coed Eva areas between the evening of Wednesday, July 25, and the following morning. Officers believe unsecured windows and doors could have contributed.

Inspector Phil O’Connor said: “We have had a cooler and wet spell over the weekend, but the warm weather is likely to return. We recognise that many residents will have their windows and doors open. While this is understandable, but we would urge members of the public not to leave these unattended.

“If you are in your garden make sure that windows and doors at the front of the house are secure, or if you go out, please make sure that they are all closed and secure. Sadly, it only takes an opportunist thief seconds to access your home through an open window.

“Also, if you see anyone acting suspiciously please call us.”

Anyone with information or concerns about burglaries in Torfaen can call Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
