PLAY workers from Torfaen Play Service have continued their work brightening up the county.

The work is part of an on-going programme to encourage children to feel safer in their community.

This week, play workers have been busy transforming Abersychan Hall at Glansychan Park with a colourful mural.

Torfaen Play Service manager Julian Davenne said: “It is an ongoing project where we are trying to revamp areas that are not nice for children to walk through.

“There was some bad language on the wall so we thought we would cover it up with something brighter and more community friendly.

“We will keep doing this until we can make this area feel safe for children to walk through.”

Previously, the play workers repainted the underpass at Northville playing fields and the old bandstand at Pontnewydd Park in Cwmbran with colourful murals and images.

Councillor Mandy Owen, executive member for children and young people on Torfaen council, said: “By painting up these areas with bright and colourful designs we hope that children will feel safer using them to walk to school or to play in their local area.

“The play workers and volunteers have done an amazing job and I would like to thank them all for their hard work.”
