CHEPSTOW erupted into a storm of applause and cheering yesterday - and a blaze of red, white and blue - to welcome home the Beachley-based battalion 1 Rifles from Afghanistan.
For most of the morning the crowd had gathered and by the time the soldiers marched by it was eight deep. The town centre parade was an outpouring of pride and affection tempered with sorrow for the families of the eight soldiers of the battalion never to return, including Monmouth's Jamie Gunn.
