A POSTMAN working in Chepstow has been suspended after allegedly leaving post locked in his van for over a week.
Many residents of the town were left angry and disappointed at missing important mail.
One resident said: "I didn't notice anything was wrong at first, but then a letter arrived from the Royal Mail, saying that there had been a security breach in the area and that some of my post had not been delivered.
"He must have been keeping some back and delivering the rest, because I still received some mail in that time."
A Royal Mail spokesperson who said: "We can confirm that a postman has been suspended pending an investigation into the intentional delay of mail in some streets in the Chepstow area. Investigations are ongoing and all mail found has been delivered to customers this week.
"Royal Mail takes the safety and security of all mail extremely seriously and it is to the credit of our internal investigation team that the incident was dealt with promptly and efficiently
"We would like to stress that incidents of this nature are very rare as the vast majority of our postmen and women are honest, decent and trustworthy. We also operate a zero tolerance towards incidents of this nature."
