YOUNGSTERS at Llanvair Kilgeddin Church in Wales Primary School have won £350 for their school by collecting Yellow Pages directories in a recycling competition.

Over the last nine weeks, 5,022 pupils at 23 schools across Monmouthshire have taken on the Yellow Woods Challenge - the simple, educational and fun schools environmental campaign run by Yellow Pages, working in partnership with the Woodland Trust and Monmouthshire County Council.

The schools have been collecting old Yellow Pages directories for recycling and a total of 8.2 tonnes will now be recycled into home insulation material by Excel Industries Ltd.

The school has won the local 'Gold Oak' title and £300 for collecting 8.33 directories per and a £50 cash prize as the most improved school in the Challenge.

Deri View Primary School was named best newcomer.

As additional support for the Tree For All campaign, Yellow Pages is awarding native tree saplings to the top three recycling schools two of which are Llanover Primary School, and Llanvihangel Crucorney Primary School

Llantilio Pertholey Church in Wales Primary School receives this year's 'Silver Birch' and wins £200 for collecting 6.31 directories per pupil.

For every pound awarded to schools in prize money, a matching pound is given to the Woodland Trust to support its new 'Tree For All' campaign.

The campaign aims to help plant 12 million trees over the next five years - one for every child under the age of 16 in the UK.
