BARRIE Vassallo, the man brought in to stave off relegation fears at Chepstow Town, knows Saturday's point at home to Seven Sisters has all but mathematically made the club safe.

But that now brings into question his future at the club - with Vassallo having said at the time of his return in February that he was not necessarily intending to stay beyond this season. And yesterday he remained as indecisive as ever with regards to his plans, revealing only that he intended to sit down with club chairman Billy Davies to discuss the matter in the "next couple of weeks". He said: "I haven't had the chance to sit down and talk with anyone from Chepstow yet.

"All they asked was for me to come back and help us stay in the Welsh League, which was what we agreed and we've done it. So there's no pressure on Chepstow to keep me on and no pressure on me to stay. From my side of things I've other things to consider and they may have other ideas, so I'll just sit down with Billy Davies over the next couple of weeks and see what happens."

He added: "When I came back I wanted to keep us safe and now we're just playing for pride and seeing how many points we can finish with."

Tonight, Vassallo and his men face Cwmbran Celtic, still without a host of first teamers including his son Nicky, Paul White and Nicky Owen. As a result Town will be putting out a weakened side but Vassallo was quick to emphasis this was not out of choice or that he was trying to do Celtic any favours.

Reflecting on the 2-2 draw with Seven Sisters, he added: "It was a scrappy game between two sides needing points for various reasons.

"We were 2-0 up and weren't coasting but doing reasonably well. At that point it was a case of the next goal would decide it and unfortunately they got it and for the net 15 minutes we were awful.

"After they equalised I thought we were the better side, but only then did we start to fight again.

"It was disappointing in terms of just getting a point, but it's more or less kept us up now. They're right down there and needed the points so they were ecstatic in the dressing room afterwards having drawn away from home; while we've squandered two points and were quite quiet."

Chepstow currently lie 11th (out of 18) in division three, with 37 points from their 30 games played out of 34 in the season.
