DIVISION Four East fighters Chepstow RFC took another step closer to safety on Saturday, with a vital 19-10 win at Talywain.
The three points takes Chepstow's season tally to 18, just one off safety, although Nantyglo boast games in hand. But the victory keeps John Lewis' side's season alive ahead of their last game of the campaign - a trip to Tredegar Ironsides this weekend.
Carl Rogers, the Chepstow left winger, opened the scoring against Talywain after just five minutes with a clever chip ahead, which he followed through at pace to outrun the opposition defence. The early score was converted by outside half Gareth John, who was having a much better game with his boot than last week.
Talywain responded with an unconverted try just before half time, with John's kick the difference at the break.
But at the restart, Chepstow began dominating the Talywain forwards and punished them, with two tries coming from their big impact players, Ian Hughes and Rob Ostler. John again converted to take the game beyond reach for the hosts.
Man of the Match was Carl Rogers, a menace to the home side with his strong running and faultless tackling.
