PROMOTION-seeking Dugout came away from Thornwell with an impressive win on Saturday, while the Red and Whites ended what has been a poor season with a 19th defeat.

The game was evenly balanced for the first ten minutes, but Dugout dug deeper and scored a classic inter-play goal, with Jones and Thomas splitting the defence open and Thomas giving Gilliver no chance.

Jones then chipped Gillver from 30 yards to double the lead on the half-hour, before a Julian Saunders penalty pulled the deficit back to 2-1. But the impressive Jones waltzed through for 3-1 and then a penalty after a Pete Moffiat mistake made it four.

Thomas completed his hat-trick after a flick on from Davies.

Thornwell refused to capitulate and substitute Stevie Griffiths found Morris, who went close. Then a third penalty of the game, Thornwell's second, was tucked away by Saunders to make it 5-2.

Saunders was later crowned Player of the Season for Thornwell, while Griffiths finishes the season top scorer with 15 goals.

Dugout, meanwhile, need just four points from their final three games to secure promotion to Division Two.
