BORDERERS' penultimate match of the season was a hastily arranged fixture against Cardiff side Llandaff North, with the home sides running out easy winners.

A try from flanker Chris Shuck and conversion from Ashley Young gave them an early 7-0 lead, then Scott Maidment forced his way over in typical bulldozing fashion when the game was only five minutes old.

In an entertaining 60 minutes the home side went through their complete repertoire of moves and rehearsed plays that came straight from the training paddock - resulting in a further five tries. Prop Ryan Beddows scored one while Ashley Mustoe and full back JJ Thomas both bagged a brace.

The final match of the season is a friendly against St Josephs from Newport, kick-off at 3pm on Saturday at the Upton Memorial Ground in Chepstow.

Meanwhile, Borderers labelled their recent Easter tour to Holland "an unqualified success" after returning with the round-robin trophy.

After travelling to Holland on Good Friday, their first game on foreign soil was a pre-cursor to the main tournament, against Rotterdamse RC and ended up in a 64-7 rout of the opposition by the tourists.

The Easter Sunday tournament was a 15-a-side, round robin format. First opposition was Belgian side Vlaanderen, with Borderers recording a two try 10-0 win. Borderers then edged passed fellow Welshmen Tonmawr 12-5.

A third win came against English side Sutton & Epsom, who boasted a big pack and some very sharp backs. But they were no match for the Borderers XV who ran out 15-3 winners.

And they wrapped up the trophy with a 15-0 win over the second English team Tottonians. The success was also described as "a gigantic pat on the back" for coaches Richard, Lyndon and John.
