Llanhilleth Athletic 1 Race First XI 1

On a sunny but windy day at Llanhilleth Park, Race took on one of the in-form sides in the league at present, Llanhilleth. The home side are still chasing honours, with the possibility of the Second Division title or runners-up spot.

In opening five minutes as the home side quickly capitalised form a defensive error, to slot past the advancing keeper.

Race were denied the equaliser midway through the half, when Robert Tovey slotted home what seemed to be a legitimate equaliser, but was denied when he was adjudged to be offside.

New centre of defence partnership of Murphy and Jones kept the home side at bay, as the strong wind behind the Llanhilleth backs assisted their direct route style of play.

Race did equalise 15 minutes before the interval through a stunning free kick by Lee Price, Lee produced a powerful shot which gave the keeper no chance.

The second half was all about the ding-dong battle in the middle of the park, with David Jenkins just heading the battle of the central midfielders, with his dogged determination, he produced some good attacking options for the Race. The Race produced some good attacking play, after getting behind the home defence, were denied by some interesting offside decisions.

Race would have loved to come away with all three points, but were happy to settle for a point. The point for the home side may have dented their chances of promotion, but continues a good end of season run for the Race as they have picked up eight points from a possible 12, with two wins and two draws, which drags them away from any allaying fears of relegation, which was a possibility in March.

Race Second XI 0

Mardy AFC 2

This was a game about missed opportunities for the Race as they could have been six nil up in the opening 30 minutes.

Following an excellent 4-1 home win over Lower New Inn, two defeats in a row has drawn them back to the foot of the table with three games to play.

The remaining games do not favour the Race, despite all of them at home, but against tough opposition, but as people know football is a strange game and if the Second XI put the effort in they can produce results on the day.

Any person wishing to attend the Race AFC Centenary Presentation Evening to be held at Race Labour and Social Club on Saturday, May 20 are reminded that ticket money is to be paid by the end of April. Tickets can be obtained on match-days.
