Pontypool Utd played two games this week and recorded two fine wins. On Wednesday night they visited Old Illtydians in Cardiff and they made four changes from the previous game in Cwmbran. In came hooker Michael Jones, flanker Mike Rosser and backs Dale Parry and Dale Nash.

On a very wet night in Cardiff, Utd scored early when wing David Robinson scored in the corner to put Utd 5-0 up. Right on half time they increased their lead when scrum-half Dale Parry crossed near the posts and Richard Jenkins added the extras for a 12-0 half time lead.

In the second half centre Matthew Francombe-Ross scored under the posts and with the conversion Utd led 19-0 before the Cardiff side pulled a score back at the death. A try by flanker Robert Nash and a conversion by Jenkins meant Utd returned home with a 26-5 victory.

On Saturday Utd played at home to Pontllanfraith they made four changes from Wednesday night in Cardiff - in came prop Leighton Harris, second row Malcolm Jones, flanker Warren Edwards and winger Robert Morgan. Utd scored first with a penalty by outside-half Richard Jenkins but then against the run of play Pontllanfraith intercepted and ran to score and convert to lead 7-3. Utd then turned the screw and centre Robert Nash soon put Utd back in front and a Jenkins conversion made the score 10-7.

Right on half time a catch and drive from a lineout put hooker Michael Jones in at the corner to make the half-time score 15-7.

In the second half it was all Utd who scored three further tries with Scott Bendon crossing twice and Robert Nash adding his second with Jenkins adding two conversions the final score was 34-7.

Next week Utd travel to Risca for a Division Three east game.
