Cherish Clothing Boutique, which won a competition run by Newport City Council and Newport Norse earlier this year, has opened for business in the city’s historic market.

In the spring, people with business ideas were invited to make a pitch to a 'Dragon’s Den' type panel.

Many entries were received but the judges chose Cherish Clothing Boutique, run by Katie Farmer and Ffion Cox, as the overall winner.

In their competition submission, the two women described themselves as having a “passion for fashion” and said they were keen to attract younger customers.

They won a rent-free stall for 12 months for their boutique especially catering for business people, expectant mums and students.

Cllr Debbie Wilcox, leader of Newport City Council, who was one of the judges, said: “Catherine and Ffion really impressed everyone on the panel and I’m delighted that they have now opened their market stall.

“I’m sure their first year of trading in the market will be a real success and I would like to wish them all the best for the future.”

Ffion and Katie said: “We are very happy that we are finally open for business, and we hope to reach our goal of attracting younger customers to the market, and we are very grateful for all the support we have had so far.”
