I FEEL that I should write in regard to the furore surrounding the Gwent Police Commissioner and the retirement of the erstwhile Chief Constable Mrs Napier.
Since her departure, I have had it on extremely good authority that the atmosphere within Gwent Police has been raised to a level that hasn’t been seen for a good number of years.
I have also heard that the temporary chief constable has invigorated the whole force with his inclusive attitude to crime prevention and detection, and has even been seen, I am led to believe, out on the beat with officers on the front line.
Gwent has now gone back to being the force it always was, community focused, devoid of performance targets, interested in its personnel and that is in, no small part, due to the Police and Crime Commissioner, Ian Johnston.
