A WOMAN died at the National Diving Centre in Chepstow at the weekend.
The woman diver, who was in her fifties, died at the scene on Saturday and her husband was taken to hospital in Plymouth where he was treated in a decompression unit. He is now in in a critical but stable condition.
Police were called at around midday to the incident involving the couple, who are from Devon and were diving with a friend. Officers are working with the Health and Safety Executive to investigate this unexplained death but it is not believed to be suspicious.
An inquest is likely to open later today. Gloucestershire Police said they are not investigating the diving centre.
A Health and Safety Executive spokesman said they have been notified and are carrying out initial enquiries.
