TWO Gwent restaurants have kept their Michelin stars as this year's top culinary accolades are announced.
The Walnut Tree in Abergavenny and The Whitebrook, near Monmouth, both retained their stars.
The Whitebrook - formerly The Crown at Whitebrook - was reopened in October 2013 by Chris Harrod, who trained under chef Raymond Blanc. The Walnut Tree, near Abergavenny, which is run by chef Shaun Hill, originally found fame under the ownership of Italian-born Franco Taruschio.
Caerleon man James Sommerin, who was executive head chef at The Crown at Whitebrook and held a star for that establishment for about seven years. This year he was awarded a star for his Restaurant James Sommerin in Penarth.
Among the other winners are Tyddyn Llan in North Wales, which is owned by chef Bryan Webb, who trained at The Crown at Whitebrook during the 1970s.
Wales now has seven Michelin stars - the most it has ever had.
