A PUBLIC meeting will take place in Chepstow Town Hall this Friday about the Mabey Bridge homes development.

The meeting in Chepstow Town Hall will be hosted by town councillor Marc Le Peltier and Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay is also attending.

Members of the public are also invited to speak about the development which was said to see around 600 houses built at the bottom of Chepstow.

Cllr Marc Le Peltier said: “The talk will be about Mabey Bridge and the effect it will have in Chepstow. This has been a concern of mine ever since the Mabey development was put forward.

“It feels like the Welsh Government forget about us, which is why I have brought in Nick Ramsay so we have an Assembly Member there who can take everyone’s views forward.

“I’m all for new property coming up in Chepstow but my concern has always been the infrastructure and lack of schools and road networks. We need to rally people together to share their views.”

Progress on the Mabey Holdings’ National Shipyard No 1 site in the town was previously stalled by the Welsh Government in early 2015 after they said more work had to go into investigating air quality and capacity of the town’s A48 junctions.

And last year, director of Savills, Tim Gent, made a presentation to Chepstow Town Council to explain the proposed road layout changes which include a reversal of the one-way system on Nelson Street and a left-turn-only lane on Station Road.

This left councillors concerned and angry about the extra traffic, with Cllr Armand Watts saying it would add to Chepstow traffic and make the town “choke itself to death.”

County councillors, town councillors and the Mabey Bridge developers met last week to discuss how the plans for the development were coming along .

The site was previously being looked at by Savills Estates who were looking to get outline permission to build 600 houses, but it was said that any further developments were put on hold.

The public meeting will take place this Friday at 2pm in Chepstow Town Hall and anyone is welcome to attend.
