USK and Abergavenny were among the coldest parts of Gwent overnight as temperatures plummeted to below -2C.

The Met Office has warned freezing temperatures could last until later in the week, after the UK saw its coldest night of the winter so far.

Temperatures fell as low as -11C overnight and into the morning in parts of inland Scotland and forecasters have warned there will be no respite over the coming days in the UK.

In Usk, temperatures of -2C were recorded between midnight and 6am this morning, while in Abergavenny and the surrounding area it fell to -2.1C.

Tom Tobler, a forecaster at MeteoGroup, warned of a weather front which could bring snow tomorrow or Wednesday.

He said: "It's going to be very cold again tonight, certainly below zero pretty much everywhere. Temperatures could be minus 3C or 4C in England and Wales and in Scotland we could see minus 10C."
