A FUNDRAISER in memory of a popular Caldicot footballer who died will take place on August bank holiday.
The three-day fundraiser will be in honour of Karl Baynton, 26, who was found hanged at Caldicot Castle on June 1. Mr Baynton had played as a goalkeeper for Chepstow Town FC for many years.
The fundraisers will be in aid of the mental health charity Mind and will take place at the Haywain Pub on Sandy Lane in Caldicot.
The first event will be held on Friday, August 28, from 6pm where there will be a disco and an eating competition. Saturday evening will consist of live music and Sunday will be a family fun day.
The fun day will start at 11am with a bouncy castle, stalls, indoor toddler play area, gladiator duel, a disco and face painting. Frozen characters Elsa and Anna will also be making an appearance as well as Lightning McQueen.
Rhiannon Griffiths, assistant manager of the pub and co-organiser, said: "The company donate to charity every year. We just thought we would do something for the local community as Karlos was a regular customer here. Mind is such a fantastic charity."
She added: "We decided Friday's event would be an eating competition as Karlos used to take part in lots of eating competitions at the pub."
The event will be free to enter. For more information visit August Bank holiday spectacular for 'Karlos' on Facebook.
