A CHEPSTOW sixth form student is holding a fundraising concert in a bid to raise awareness of the struggles of young people suffering with mental health.

Rosie Levy, 17, will be hosting and performing at the musical afternoon at Chepstow’s Drill Hall on Sunday, November 27, in aid of mental health charity YoungMinds.

The Wyedean School pupil described the charity as being committed to “improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health” of children and young people.

It is a cause close to her heart, having been diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder two years ago.

“I feel passionate about this personal cause as so many young people fail to get the help they need due to the lack of funding,” said Miss Levy.

“There is also a lot of stigma around mental health related issues which lead to young people not getting the support they need.”

She added: “I would like more people to become aware and educated on mental health issues to help and young people's lives to become better.”

According to Miss Levy the charity also extend their support to the parents of the children and young people that they are in touch with.

Her mother, Rosalind, described the service as an "invaluable resource" and that the organisation is doing an "amazing job."

She added: "I'm very proud of what Rosie is doing, and I'm really behind her, and performing in front of others is a really big thing for her as well."

YoungMinds community fundraiser, Matt La Faci praised Miss Levy for her "enthusiasm" during preparations for the concert.

He said: “We’re delighted that Rosie is holding a concert in aid of our charity. Not only is she keen to raise funds for our charity, but she is dedicated to raising awareness for children and young people’s mental health in her local area.

Mr La Faci added: "Without fundraisers like Rosie, our charity would not be able to continue our vital work, we can’t thank her enough and wish her all the best."

Along with Miss Levy, who is currently putting in for her piano Grade 7 exam, other acts that will share the stage include members of Chepstow Musical Youth Theatre as well as other young musicians and performers from the area.

Tickets are available on the door at the cost of £5, with concessions costing £4.
