COLEG Gwent students swapped the classroom for the outdoors to complete a charity walk yesterday.

Nine Level Two business studies students, together with two staff members, are hoping to raise £500 after completing a 10-kilometre walk in aid of St David’s Hospice Foundation.

The group, which was led by Pontypool Campus business lecturer Stella Nowell and subject tutor Tracy Gage, set off from the Blaendare Road campus and followed a route along the canal to Cwmbran and returning to Pontypool in four hours.

The challenge was part of their ‘Working with Others’ qualification which saw the students promote the event, create posters, raise awareness and sponsorship.

Ms Nowell said: “This is the second year Coleg Gwent students have raised funds for St David’s Hospice and we hope this can continue for many years to come.

“The charity is local and offers a wide range of support and most of us will know someone who has been helped in some way,” she said.

“Students are proud to work with a local organisation which does so much for our communities, and organising and promoting events like these mean that students are able to complete their Working with Others qualification, and develop their business and marketing skills for their overall qualification as level two business students.”
