SCHOOL CHILDREN enjoyed making their own ceramic rugby players during a workshop in Cwmbran last week.

Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre hosted the workshop where around 15 youngsters aged between five and 13 years old created their own Welsh and English rugby players.

Charles Fountain, from the arts centre, said: “It went extremely well and all the children thoroughly enjoyed it.

“They went home with their ceramic rugby players, which were mainly the Welsh front row and a few English players.”

He added that they had been running workshops for 25 years and had something planned for every week day during the school summer holidays.

As part of heritage week youngsters have been creating Japanware work and shell collages over the last few days, with this week the centre set to focus on textiles.

“Every workshop is unique and different,” added Mr Fountain.

“The nice thing is they always have something they have created and that they can take home at the end of the day.”

He added that they hoped the workshops would inspire youngsters to pursue a career in arts and textiles, as many former students “go on to have a lifelong interest in the arts”.
