TORFAEN’S MP Nick Thomas-Symonds has recently accepted a new role as Shadow Solicitor General in the recent UK Labour reshuffle.
The promotion will involve working with the Shadow Attorney General Baroness Chakrabarti and the Torfaen MP will be responsible for all delegated matters.
Mr Thomas-Symonds will hold the Attorney General and Solicitor General to account in the House of Commons, while Baroness Chakrabarti is in the House of Lords.
Speaking about his new role, he said he would draw on previous experience as a barrister before entering Parliament and focus on UK Government's legal aid cuts and tribunal fees.
“The Tories cannot be allowed to get away with their attacks on our justice system," he said.
“When the country’s most senior judge, Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, wrote earlier this year that ‘our system of justice has become unaffordable to most’ that should give us all pause for thought.
“I also intend to make the case for greater equality of access and diversity in the legal professions, and look forward to speaking to both the Law Society and Bar Council about pushing forward with their work on these issues.”
“I now intend to get on with the job and hold the Tories to account in Parliament," he added.
