MORE than 50 parents and children visited a community farm which came alive ahead of Christmas all with a Welsh twist.

Cwmbran’s Greenmeadow Community Farm held the Welsh language learner’s event, Hwyl yr ?yl, a joint venture between the farm and Coleg Gwent.

With a host of Christmas activities planned, the visitors started with a breakfast accompanied by Welsh Christmas music, before an arts and craft session and a visit from Sion Corn or Father Christmas to non-Welsh speakers.

The Hwyl yr ?yl was in its third year and in keeping with the traditions of the season, the animals from the farm took centre stage in the nativity show which was held in the barn.

Family Development Officer, Mair Turner who works at Learn Welsh Gwent, said: “This event is unique because it gives the learners the confidence to put their Welsh into practice in an informal and fun setting.

“Traditionally, working with children and animals is a risky business but somehow this event has gone from strength to strength over the past three years and it’s all thanks to this magical combination.”
