A CHOIR from Cwmbran are celebrating after being selected to perform in the Great British Proms.

Music group Soul’d as Seen scooped the spot in the event’s choir competition, with winners announced this week after thousands of votes were cast.

The group will now perform at Georgian country house,Bowood House, in Wiltshire, on August 6, sharing the bill with Only Men Aloud and the National Symphony Orchestra.

The 65-strong adult gospel/pop choir was set up in April 2014 and is directed by Susie Webb, who is also fondly known as ‘Bluesy Susie’.

Christmas 2016 also saw the release of the choir’s first single ‘Christmas Lullaby’, which appeared at number five in the Apple Chart.

Ms Webb, reflecting on the win, thanked people who voted for the choir on social media and music-streaming website, Soundcloud.

She said: “Soul'd As Seen are so incredibly proud and excited to announce that we are going to be performing at The Great British Proms at Bowood House and Gardens with Only Men Aloud and The National Symphony Orchestra.

“Huge thanks to everyone that has voted and sent messages of support (and) massive thanks to the Great British Proms organisers for organising such a wonderful event.”

“We are so very very happy,” she added.

The group rehearse every Tuesday at Bron Afon Housing Association at 7.30pm. They have also performed at many festivals and venues including the Millennium Centre, Dolman Theatre, St David’s Hall and Cardiff Castle.
