A NEW show based on life in the South Wales Valleys is set to be a big hit with the Welsh public after selling hundreds of tickets ahead of its opening night.

The new comedy show Cwmploddy, written by singer Lyndon Mark, 33, of Ringland, Newport, and actor and comedy writer Jason Lee, 41, of St Julians, Newport, will open at the Congress Theatre in Cwmbran on October 21 and already tickets are selling fast.

Tipped to be the next Mrs Brown's Boys, the show set in the fictional village of Cwmploddy, in the heart of the South Wales Valleys, and follows the story of a young girl named Bonifa who dreams of becoming a famous rapper.

After her dream comes true she is has to make the tough decision of leaving her loved ones behind in the face of success.

Featuring an all-Welsh cast made up of actors Holly Wilson; Amanda Kelli; Lee Mathias and Lorne Jones, as well as co-writers Mr Mark and Mr Lee, the story follows Bonifa's journey to stardom and the characters who shape it.

A promotional video was filmed earlier this week and both writers are eagerly anticipating performing in front of a Welsh audience.

Mr Mark said: “We started writing last September and rehearsing last month.

“It is all just about Valleys fun incorporating elements of Mrs Browns Boys and Gavin and Stacey.

“It has a funny Valleys sense of humour that follows things in everyday life for the people, living in the Valleys, but it is a bit OTT.

“We’re just trying to have a good time.”

Mr Lee agreed: “The show is based on the people who have been in our lives.

“My character Doris Jones is based on my gran because she was a Welsh Cake fanatic-so that is what we had in mind.

“The show has sold hundreds of tickets already for our performance at the Congress Theatre in Cwmbran and our promotional video will be launched this Sunday.”
