FIVE electric vans that cost just two pence a mile to run have been bought by a council to deliver community meals.
The Nissan e-NV200 electric vans purchased by Torfaen council will deliver hot meals and tea trays to around 175 residents in the borough every day, and will save around £9,000 a year.
About £8,000 per year will be saved in fuel costs and more than £1,000 per year in road tax, as ‘green’ vehicles don’t require taxing.
The new vehicles can cover around 106 miles on a single charge, and can be powered up from zero to 100 per cent in just 30 minutes.
