STUDENTS who attend the Welsh medium school in Pontypool have been congratulated for their achievements in their A-level, BTEC and Welsh Baccalaureate results.

The staff at Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw have reported that they are again delighted with the achievements of their Year 13 pupils this year.

Over 59 per cent of pupils received an A* or A grade in at least one qualification, while 33.1 per cent of entries gained an A* or A grade and 83.3 per cent of entries gained an A* to C.

The staff posted on the school’s website: “As a Welsh medium school we pride ourselves on our results, with pupils drawn from all over South East Wales, as well as over the border.

“We are pleased that so many have decided to continue their studies at universities in Wales, and we wish them all the very best for the future.”

Some of the school’s best performers this year include Alys Smith from Rogiet, who achieved A* in English Literature, history and the Welsh Baccalaureate, and an A in French and religious studies.

Rebecca Rhydderch-Price, from Abergavenny, achieved A* in English literature and the Welsh Baccalaureate and A in Welsh and in biology.

Cai Hale, from Newport, achieved A* in mathematics and further mathematics, A in physics and a B in Welsh Baccalaureate.

Liam Bradley, also from Newport, achieved A* in mathematics and in Spanish, A in geography and in Welsh Baccalaureate.

Sian Brown, from Pontypool, achieved A* in mathematics, A in ICT and in art and a B in Welsh Baccalaureate.

Lloyd Lewis, from Cwmbran, achieved A* in English literature, A in physical education and in Welsh Baccalaureate and a B in drama.

Bethan Edwards, from Caerwent, achieved an A* in history, A in politics and in Welsh Baccalaureate and a B in French.

Ffion Edwards from Usk, achieved A* in maths, A in geography and Welsh Baccalaureate and a B in physics.
