GWENT COUNTY 2ND DIVISION CWMFFRWDOER 3 UNDERWOOD ATHLETIC 2

CWMFFRWDOER Sports Club recorded their sixth consecutive victory when they entertained Underwood Athletic from the East Gwent League on Saturday in the Amateur Cup.

Having dropped out of the Gwent County League the previous season, the Doer were well aware of their visitors’ background, coupled with the fact that Underwood had amassed 53 goals in their previous seven outings.

On a heavy pitch both sides attempted to get the ball down and play football, and it was the visitors who took the lead on 30 minutes when they were awarded a penalty, which they duly dispatched to take a deserved 1-0 lead.

The Doer were creating lots of chances in and around the visitors’ area, but their final pass let them down on too many occasions.

Just before the half-time whistle the Doer were awarded a free kick, when striker Mikey Passmore was brought down on the edge of the penalty area. Captain Matthew Jackson left the Underwood keeper with no chance, as his direct shot hit the top right hand corner of the net.

The second half saw the Doer playing better football.

On 70 minutes Jackson picked up the ball in the centre circle and, committing the centre half to the tackle, passed the ball into the path of winger Connor.

Worwood out-sprinted the Underwood defence before finishing with a well-taken strike past the keeper, 2-1 to the Doer.

Underwood, to their credit, never gave up the ghost. With only five minutes remaining, they scored with a well-taken goal, 2-2.

With the clock ticking down and with extra time looming , the Doer pressed on.

Some good work from Passmore led to him firing the ball hard and lowinto the box.

This cross was met by winger Kristian Howells, who managed to score with a well-taken strike from a very acute angle, final score 3-2 to the Doer.

On the day midfielder Kyle Tovey and centre half Steffan Clarke stood out for the Doer.
