RACE Welcomed Graig y Rhacca’s footballers on Saturday, and with another warm day the game was split into three 30-minute periods.

The visitors swelled their ranks with no fewer than five current Welsh League players, who are obtaining fitness ahead of the season with other clubs.

Race started the game missing six players, but it didn’t deter the side from putting in a battling performance. The visitors took the lead on 15 minutes with a well worked goal as the away striker coolly slotted home from six yards.

The score remained 0-1 to the visitors after the first period despite both teams creating chances at either end.

The visitors made changes at the break, which proved a positive for Race as the side scored two quick-fire goals within 10 minutes of the restart.

On 55 minutes, the visitors equalised with a scrappy goal, as the game edged end to end.

Race started applying more pressure and had a shot that rocketed off the cross bar and one cleared off the line, before they again went ahead with a sublime goal to go 3-2 up on 65 minutes.

The visitors rallied and within a minute, they equalised from a good direct free kick.

The visitors introduced more fresh legs, with Race also making some changes.

This period was very competitive, despite the warm weather as both teams gave their all and continued to create chances at both ends.

The visitors hit the bar, not once, but twice.

But it was Race who scored what turned out to be the winner with 15 minutes of the game remaining via a powerful free kick which the opposition goalkeeper failed to control as he let it slip through his grasp into the net.

It was another good work out, with areas that can still be worked on on the training ground with the league season fast approaching.

Goals on the day were scored by Shaun Williams (2), Sam Smith and Christian Dunne.

The 2nd XI returned from Crickhowell FC last Thursday with a deserved 4-3 win.

The victory was all the more sweeter as the home team fielded six first teamers in the second half to try and secure a result, but it was Race who held on.

Goals were scored by Ashley Jeremiah, Chris Bartlett, Mitchell Beaumont and Gavin Rogers.
