MATTHEW Pewtner hopes that the backs continue to reap the rewards of Newport Gwent Dragons' breakdown prowess when they host Glasgow on Sunday, writes Chris Kirwan.

The winger provided the try-scoring offload to centre Ashley Smith when the Rodney Parade region hit Leinster with a pair of quickfire turnovers in Dublin last weekend.

And with openside flanker Nic Cudd in fine form, Pewtner is hopeful of getting plenty of chances to stretch his legs against the RaboDirect Pro12 title hopefuls this weekend.

"Our contact area work was really good against Leinster and I think that we rival any team in the league in that department," said the 23-year-old.

"That's great for us because there is loads of space from turnover ball and the opposition defence is all over the place.

"Defences are so well drilled in rugby these days but turnover ball is perfect to attack from; that's when you want the ball in space to have a crack and take somebody on."

Smith's try put the Dragons into a surprise lead at the Royal Dublin Society but a last-minute score not only condemned them to defeat but denied them a losing bonus point.

A clash against the champions is followed by another tricky encounter against seventh-placed Glasgow, who have won all their Pro12 away games so far this season.

The Scots also triumphed 60-3 at Rodney Parade last season but the Dragons can take confidence from a surprise win against Gregor Townsend's men at Scotstoun in November.

"We took a lot of positives from Leinster but it was disappointing to come away with nothing after all that effort," said Pewtner.

"Glasgow will pose a different challenge but we can take loads of confidence from winning up there.

"They will want to hit back at us and they've got a good away record but Rodney Parade is a tough place for any side to come."
