Division 1

OPENERS Matthew Spencer and Ross Lewis steered Sudbrook Firsts to victory after chasing down a below-par 120 set by hosts Tondu, writes Bob Cypher.

Spencer (64) and Lewis (29) set the tone and although three more wickets fell cheaply, Sudbrook passed Tondu’s total with 17 overs left.

Earlier, Sudbrook’s bowlers restricted Tondu’s batsmen with Mitchell Slape taking 2-17 and Scott O’Leary 3-28.

Skipper Jamie Watkins removed opener Owen Davies for 14 runs to end with 2-20 and Dean Wallace chipped in with 2-21.

Meanwhile, at Mill Lane, Jon Clements took 4-14 and Paul Adams 3-9 as Sudbrook Seconds beat visitors Crumlin by eight wickets in their Division 2 match.

With only Theepan Dilshan posting a double-figure score, Crumlin lost their openers for ducks off the bowling of Ian Simmonds – both given out lbw.

Dilshan’s 25 runs gave Crumlin a glimmer of hope until he was removed by Adams, caught Clements.

Of the remaining batsmen only their captain Ashley Randall made a double-figure score, falling as Clements’ final victim for 11 runs.

In reply, skipper Steve Comins (22), fellow opener David Burgess (17) and Darren Lloyd (19 not out) saw Sudbrook to 66-2 off 21 overs.

“Crumlin struggled throughout as they were missing key players due to the end of the rugby session,” Comins said later.

“Good performances by Jon Clements and Paul Adams helped to make it a good start for Sudbrook Seconds.”
