WALES full-back Hallam Amos is happy to wing it with the Dragons this season if it makes the most out of new boy Jordan Williams' "devastating" dancing feet.

Amos has played predominantly out wide in professional rugby but Warren Gatland and past club coaches have long expressed their opinion that the speedster's long-term future is at 15.

The 23-year-old from Cross Ash finished last season at full-back for the Dragons and then started all three summer Tests there in the absence of rested Lions Leigh Halfpenny and Liam Williams.

However, on his return to the Dragons Amos found himself back on the wing in the final tune-up for Saturday's Guinness PRO14 opener against Benetton.

He was handed the 11 jersey with Jordan Williams, his former Wales Under-20s teammate and a summer recruit from Bristol, continuing at full-back.

Amos wants to be a 15 but the toys haven't been thrown out of the pram; he is content to just be in the XV.

"I will play a bit of both this year I would imagine," said Amos. "That's what (Wales assistant) Rob Howley has spoken to Bernard about.

"I am happy and the best team that the Dragons can put out at the moment does include me on the wing.

"Jordan is a class player. I have played with him for years and he has some of the best footwork that I have seen, so to have him at 15 is pretty devastating.

"When you have players like that around they do create stuff, so hopefully I can pick up a couple of tries off him.

"As a back line we have got a lot of talent and if we can get some decent ball then we should see some pretty special stuff."

"Attack is fairly similar and defensively you just have to switch on," he continued. "I have played both a fair bit and I am used to it, a bit of 13 now as well that I have to get my head around!

"You just want to be on the pitch and as long as the ball makes it to the wing I will be happy."

That hope will be helped, he believes, by added bulk up front.

"We didn't have the ball carriers last season after losing Ed Jackson, who was a big loss for us," said Amos.

"To bring the likes of Brandon Nansen and Richard Hibbard, they are big men who are going to get us over the gain line; you see Brandon coming down your channel and you know that you won't make a dominant hit.

"It's fantastic to have boys like that and Ross Moriarty and Ollie Griffiths, we have big and powerful guys.

"At international level Warren Gatland talks a lot about winning the collisions, do that and more often that not you will win the game."

Amos' 2017/18 was punctuated by an ankle injury over the festive period that saw him lose his Wales start in the Six Nations after starring in the autumn.

He played 14 times in a frustrating season for the Dragons but is confident that brighter times lie ahead, with a super September key to their hopes given that they host Benetton, Southern Kings and Zebre.

"The team is one of the strongest I have been involved in, we have got 12 internationals in the line-up and that is unprecedented during my eight years here," said Amos.

"After last season we just need to win. We have a block of six games before Europe with some tough fixtures but also very winnable ones.

"It all starts on Saturday and we are really looking forward to it. Benetton are very strong now and had a good season."
