CROSS Keys may have started the Principality Premiership with a five-point haul but the men from Pandy Park want to up their game at Carmarthen tomorrow afternoon, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Keys head west (kick-off 2.30pm) to tackle the Quins on the back of a home 32-25 triumph against Bridgend.

The victory was a boost for an inexperienced side after a summer of change but the senior heads have spent this week hammering home the need for improvement.

"With a lot of debutants we were really pleased with the win but the boys have said all week that they have work to do," said team manager Mark Prangell.

"Our attack was good but defensively we have a lot of improvement to do and it was encouraging to hear that the squad weren't happy despite a good win.

"The biggest difference when players step up to Premiership standard is that if they are slightly off it then mistakes will get punished.

"But we will only get better as the new players settle in and they have really refreshed things with (former Cardiff Blues lock) Damian Welch and (ex-Dragons fly-half) Jason Tovey leading things well."

The Quins were stunned on home soil on opening day with Newport romping to a 29-12 success, something that Keys expect to make their task harder.

"It will be a big test, Carmarthen hasn't been a good place for us but with so many new boys there is no fear," said Prangell.

"Defensively we will have to be better and we have told the boys to expect a reaction from them after their loss.

"This is a good challenge for us - we had a good win against Bridgend but it's a hard league and it's about producing performances week in, week out."

Keys will be forced into front row changes with props Gary Carpenter and Corey Hewlett unavailable.
