Welsh Women’s Football League

EMILY Bayliss scored the only goal to give Caldicot Town a winning start to their season at Dafen Welfare, writes Bob Cypher.

Town manager Luke Harris said he was happy to start the season with three points.

“We didn’t play the best of games but it’s the points that matter at the end of the day and now our focus moves onto the next game next Sunday at home to Penybont,” he said.

Meanwhile, in Division 1 of the South Wales Women and Girls League, Severn Tunnel LFC enjoyed a 7-1 win at Aberdare Town.

The victory came thanks to another Mikaela Roberts hat-trick and goals by Taran Fitzgerald, Shauna Pentney, Charlotte Dance and Sarah Bailey.

Manager Sian Elizabeth Rees was delighted by what she described as a great performance.

“The improvements in a short space of time are vast, the commitment and effort is 110 per cent and I'm proud to work with every one of them individually and as a team,” she said.

“We communicated well, moving into space, keeping possession of the ball and the quality of football was fantastic.”

This Sunday sees Severn Tunnel play their first home league match when they welcome fourth-placed Tredegar Ladies to Rogiet.

Kick off is at 2pm.
