A DEVASTATING second-half display from Cross Keys helped ease them into the next round of the Swalec Cup as they ran out comfortable 52-24 winners over Llanelli.

Cross Keys benefitted from a number of Llanelli errors at Parc y Scarlets as they ran away with the game in the second period to finish with a total of nine touchdowns.

Cross Keys deservedly took the lead after seven minutes through scrum-half Ryan James' try following pressure from the away side, however Ethan Davies' missed conversion failed to extend their lead.

Chances remained at a premium as both teams made mistakes but Llanelli improved after falling behind and were awarded a penalty try on 30 minutes after a cynical foul by Cross Keys' James.

Frazier Climo converted for the hosts to put them in front before Cross Keys were awarded a penalty try of their own, Llanelli collapsing a scrum just short of the try line.

Davies converted to make the score 12-7 and put Cross Keys back in front, before the home side levelled things up through Steff Evans' excellent solo try just moments before half-time.

Unfortunately, the full-back injured himself in the process of scoring and had to be replaced as the two sides went in level at the break at 12-12.

The sides exchanged tries within the first five minutes of the second half through Keys flanker Scott Matthews and Llanelli replacement Josh Adams, with both kickers converting to keep the scores tied.

But Cross Keys' dominance was soon reflected on the scoreboard as they scored five tries without reply in the following 20 minutes through Ethan Davies, full-back James Leadbeater, lock Simon Williams and another one from flanker Matthews, with Davies converting all five.

Llanelli did pull a late try back through Climo and performed admirably in the last 10 minutes, however he failed to convert his effort and it was Cross Keys who had the final say as wing Nathan Trowbridge raced home from 30 yards. Davies

missed the chance to add to his 17 points with the kick, but it mattered little as Keys progressed to the second round.
