NEWPORT RFC are hosting visitors from their twin city of Kutaisi ahead of Saturday’s autumn Test between Wales and Georgia.
Dimitri Pularia, the current manager of the AIA Kusaisi rugby school and David Nemsadze, the club’s strength and conditioning coach, are guests of the Black and Ambers in the week of the clash at Principality Stadium.
The link between the clubs goes back to 1998 when Pularia was part of a delegation that visited south Wales.
“This visit was very interesting and beneficial for us,” he said. “We learned how to improve our way of working on different levels.
“We visited Swansea, Cross Keys, Pontypool and other rugby clubs and watched the Newport versus Rovigo match.”
“We met Newport and Welsh rugby legend David Watkins. Our meeting with Mr Watkins was an unforgettable experience.
“We had interesting meetings with different generations of members from Newport rugby club and supporters, which was also beneficial to us.”
The Georgia squad for the autumn includes RC AIA Kutaisi fly-half Revaz Jinchvelashvili and full-back Mirian Modebadze.
