Merthyr 2 Caldicot Town LFC Development 3

TOWN welcomed back Taylor Fitzgerald after a lengthy injury layoff for the match at Merthyr, writes Bob Cypher.

And skipper Nat Rostron celebrated by giving her team the lead with a blistering 30-yard strike, before Carys Soper doubled the advantage on the half hour.

But although they were cruising, Merthyr took advantage of a couple of mistakes to level the scores by half time.

“They were simple mistakes and we must learn from them,” Town’s assistant manager Gareth Crispin said later.

“But, we battled well against a physical Merthyr team and a bit of brilliance by Carys Soper won it for us,” he added.

“She took on two players down the right wing before crossing to Taylor who slotted the ball home.

“Carys was the difference between the two sides and was our player of the match.”
