NEWPORT County AFC have signed midfielder Emmanuel Osadebe on loan until the end of the season from Cambridge United, subject to international clearance.

Born in Dundalk in Ireland to Nigerian parents, Osadebe started his playing career at the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation College Programme before signing for Gillingham in 2015.

He had a successful season with the Gills where he made more than 40 appearances and was awarded their goal of the season award for the 2016-17 campaign.

The 21-year-old left Gillingham at the end of last season and signed a two-year contract with Cambridge United in May 2017.

But he has failed to secure regular football with the U's and he now joins County until the end of the season.

On completing the deal earlier today, Exiles boss Michael Flynn said: “Osadebe has come in to strengthen the squad.

"He will have to fight for his place in the team because the boys have been excellent this season but he’s a player I’ve been keeping my eye on for a while and is a good addition to the squad.”

Cambridge manager Shaun Derry said: "The idea about being a footballer is to play games and sadly for Emmanuel he's not been on the pitch too much this term. He has a great opportunity at Newport."
