NEWPORT County AFC Michael Flynn insists there is no pressure on his side ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup showdown with Leicester City and he believes the Exiles are capable of shocking the former Premier League champions.

Gary Lineker and the BBC Match of the Day team will be in Newport for the third-round tie (kick-off 4.30pm) hoping to see County upset the odds again.

Flynn’s men beat Championship giants Leeds United at the same stage last season before taking Tottenham Hotspur to a replay in round four.

And the manager is confident that his players can rise to the big occasion once more.

“It’s huge,” said Flynn. “It’s a great game and it’s a free hit for us.

“Nobody really expects us to win, but nobody expected us to do anything against Spurs or Leeds last year.

“It’s exciting and hopefully the boys go out there and show what they can do, because on their day they’re very capable of raising their levels.

“There’s a lot of interest and the reason we’re on telly is because people think there might be a chance of an upset.

“And I believe that if Leicester have an off day and we play to the best of our ability then there could be an upset.”

County have dropped to 12th in League Two after a disappointing December and Flynn knows they have to make the most of any opportunities that come their way this weekend.

“We created enough chances to win the last two games so it’s not as if we’re completely out of form but we have to hope everything clicks on Sunday,” he said.

“We know that chances will be few and far between and we have to make sure we stay in the game.

“The important thing against Spurs was going 1-0 up and giving us and the crowd something to hang on to.

“The Newport crowd will get behind us again,” he added.

“They love the big occasion and they’ve been spoiled the last few years with three Wembley trips, the Leeds game, Tottenham and now Leicester. That’s not bad for a little club like Newport.”

New left-back Vashon Neufville, who arrived on loan from West Ham United today, could come straight into the team to replace the suspended Dan Butler.

Midfielders Joss Labadie and Andrew Crofts are unlikely to play due to injury, while goalkeeper Joe Day could potentially miss the match as his wife Lizzie is expecting twins this weekend.

Bristol City loan stars Tyreeq Bakinson and Antoine Semenyo are both available after the latter recovered from a chest infection that has ruled him out of the last two matches.

But Mark Harris will not feature. The forward has returned to parent club Cardiff City at the end of his loan.

“Mark is doubtful,” said Flynn at this morning’s pre-match press conference.

“Nothing is confirmed yet. I’ve spoken to [Cardiff boss] Neil Warnock and we’ll know more over the next few days, but it’s doubtful that it’ll get extended in time for the weekend.”
