Gwent Girlguiding are hoping a spruced up second-hand raft will spur them to victory in this year’s Monmouth Raft Race.
The guides’ team’s members, who are all from Monmouthshire and Newport, were donated the raft by St David’s Hospice Care’s depot in Cwmbran.
County commissioner for Gwent Girlguiding, Andrea Rodley, said: “It’s ideal. All the basics are there, all we need is a bit of imagination and some spit and polish and we’ll be ready to get going.
“We have been involved in various St David’s events in the past, but this’ll be the first time we’ve entered the Monmouth Raft Race.”
This year marks the 53rd edition of the annual event, in which competitors race 6.5 miles downriver from Monmouth to Whitebrook.
The race takes place on Sunday, September 2.
