ACID attack response kits have been rolled out across pubs in Torfaen.

The borough is the second of the Gwent authorities to introduce the kits, after nine were introduced in pubs in Caerphilly in January.

Funded by Pontypool Pubwatch, Cwmbran Pubwatch and Cwmbran Street Pastors, the kits will be distributed across 25 locations throughout Torfaen.

The kits include protective gloves, goggles and face masks, as well as scissors, bottles of water, and cling film to help treat burns.

At the launch event at Green Lawn Social Club in New Inn, landlords, street pastors, and security staff were given a talk on what to do in the event of an acid attack.

Partnership Chief Inspector Jason White said: "We've had 25 kits purchased in Torfaen, which is fantastic.

"It shows the enthusiasm from licensees and individuals who are willing to take part in this initiative.

"There hasn't been an attack in Gwent, but I think these kits, give people the confidence to administer first aid.

"The kits are for their protection, as well as protecting the victims of the offence as well.

"We can't be complacent. even though there hasn't been an attack. It is just about being in a position where we can respond effectively should it happen."

The kits are available for use in the following establishments: Waterloo Inn, The Crows Nest, The Three Blackbirds, The Blinkin Owl, Street Pastors of Cwmbran, The John Fielding, McDonalds (Cwmbran), Hollywood Bowl (Cwmbran), Cwmbran Shopping Site Security, Croesyceiliog Cricket Club, The Castle (Blaenavon), The Rising Sun, Green Lawn Social Club, Twyn Y Ffrwd Inn, Pontypool Conservative Club, The Comrades, and The Iron Juke.

Six premises are awaiting kits. These are: The White Hart, The Scrum Half, The Belle Vue, The Sally, The Teazer, and The Forge.
