CHEPSTOW Male Voice Choir is looking for more members after a great year for the group.

Tom Lewis, singer in the choir for 14 years, says the group, which currently has around 35 singers, would like to get to 50 members this year.

The choir is currently on tour, having performed in Llandogo and Sedbury, and will be singing at Chepstow Drill Hall in a taster open evening on Thursday, March 12, starting at 7pm.

As well as singing, the group often goes on tour together, and recently spent time in Cornwall and Spain.

“Most male voice choirs go through stages where they lose members,” said Mr Lewis. “Over the last five years we’ve lost some longstanding members, which can be difficult to replace. We sing in lots of different forms – in English and in Welsh – and it’s great physically as well as socially.

“It’s not just about the singing. We go on tours and on holidays as well, and we’ll be singing at the Royal Albert Hall in May as part of the Festival of Massed Male Voice Choirs.”

The group sings at the Dell School every Monday and Thursday at 7pm, and there is an open invitation for anyone who wants to go to attend.
