ONLY six areas in Wales have recorded fewer coronavirus cases than in Torfaen over the past week.

A total of 118 new cases have been confirmed in Torfaen across the seven days up to July 29 - the latest available Public Health Wales figures.

In Gwent, Monmouthshire (105) and Blaenau Gwent (74) recorded fewer cases than in Torfaen, while Caerphilly (200) and Newport (225) recorded a higher number of cases.

Torfaen's case rate has continued to fall, having significantly dropped to 149 per 100,000 people last week (up to July 22). It now stands at 125.6 per 100,000 people.

Elsewhere in Gwent, Newport's case rate is 145.5; Monmouthshire's is 111; Caerphilly's is 110.5; and Blaenau Gwent's has risen over the past week to 105.9.

Wales’ case rate is 139.8, and the test positivity rate is 9.9 per cent - with Torfaen's positivity rate at 9.2 per cent.

Denbighshire (358.4) and Conwy (267.1) have the highest case rates in Wales, while Ceredigion (82.5) and Pembrokeshire (83.5) have the lowest case rates.

Four deaths have been recorded in Gwent in the past week, with the death toll in the region now standing at 967.
