A NEW study has shown that properties in Blaenavon situated close to Big Pit National Coal Museum are worth almost half as much as other houses in the area on average.
Research from estate agent comparison site getagent has shown how living near certain attractions in the UK can increase or decrease the value of a property.
For Gwent, the biggest decrease is by far for those living near Big Pit in Blaenavon.

The average price of a house in the wider Blaenavon area is £194,236, but the average price of a house near Big Pit is £103,200.
That is a decrease of £91,036 - about 47 per cent.
This puts it in the top 10 at seventh place for amount of money a property value is lowered by for being near an attraction in the UK.
Conversely, if you live near Tintern Abbey then you are in luck as the property value of your house is increased.
The average price of a house near the abbey is £407,250, while the average price for the wider area is £369,102.
This means that if you are close to the abbey then your house may be worth around 27 per cent more, or £101,148 more.
The research was conducted using data from Rightmove on the average price of property sold over the past year.
