An area on the Berkshire/Buckinghamshire border was the focus of a popular BBC television programme that aired on Friday night.

In the most recent episode of Gardener’s World on April 26, a section of the show was dedicated to Ron James’ incredible back lawn in Denham.

Described as ‘Quintessentially British’, the garden is similar to the one from the Wind and the Willows books, with Mr James’ background donning 20-foot trees, a bridge, and a river.

He moved into the current property in the early 1990s and admitted that the garden had ‘a lot of potential’.

Presenter Frances Tophill said: “Creating a garden from scratch on a blank canvas takes a lot of time and patience.

“But when that garden is flanked by running water and meandering streams, that’s surely the garden design gift.

“Well perhaps, but it also takes a lot of trial and error before you get the balance of that design right.

“Created by Ron James who spent the last 30 years developing the site that wraps around his house, and it’s absolutely lovely.”

Mr James added: “It’s a bit more like a field than a garden’.

“When my mother came to look at it for the first time, that was exactly what she said.”

Across the country `Gardeners' World' presenters, from their own gardens and homes, give advice and share their knowledge to enable people to get the most out of their gardens.

BBC Gardener's World said on X: "Wind in the Willows has got to be one of the most tranquil gardens we have ever seen, as you'll discover tonight."
