STUDENTS from The Priory Talocher School, Monmouth, have climbed 2,907 feet in the name of Sport Relief.

The school is home to 18 students ages 11-18, with emotional, social or behavioural difficulties, and it was their idea to scale the highest point in the Brecon Beacons, Pen-Y-Fan.

The school's PE teachers led the youngsters to the summit of Pen-Y-Fan in an attempt to raise as much money as possible for Sport Relief.

In total the school has raised more than £500 from the selling of raffle tickets, sweatbands and sponsorship for the actual walk.

Teacher, Owen Marshall, who completed the climb, said: "Everyone worked extremely hard in preparation for this, they've raised a great amount of money.

"This is a tricky climb, and then if you take into account the special needs of our students it makes their achievement even greater."

Vice Principal of Talocher School, Claire Imber, added: "I am extremely proud all of our staff and students for completing this challenge.

"I think it says a lot when young people with special needs take on the mantle of fundraisers, in order to help some of the world's most vulnerable people, it's incredibly humbling."
